#LoveAtFirstSound

A song is more than just notes strung together for 3 or 4 minutes… it’s an experience. A song always sparks a memory, a feeling, a moment in time. Hearing a new song can create a memory, and you will forever think of that very moment the next time you hear that song.

I think it’s so important to share the gift of music. That’s why I tweet any song I like with #LoveAtFirstSound along with it. It doesn’t matter if it was the 100th time I’ve heard the song, it always brings me back to the first time I heard it.

Here’s a refresh of some of the songs I’ve tweeted as well as some new ones! They’re just too good to keep to myself 😉

Adele, “Rolling in the Deep”

Graffiti6, “Stare Into the Sun”

Natasha Bedingfield, “Strip Me”

Enjoy falling in #LoveAtFirstSound!

Ciao for now!

I hope today you’re going green! Happy St. Patty’s Day!

I’ve already seen people in the office who aren’t wearing green! (shame on them haha) And when I threaten to pinch them they say “I’m Irish, I don’t need to wear green!” Since when was being Irish a reason to NOT wear green?? Oh well…

Happy St. Patty’s Day!

These are pix from my trip to Ireland two years ago!! We went to the Guiness factory, which was AWESOME to see each step of the brewing process! Dublin really is such a fun city!

Then we took the train out to Galway. This is a pic I quickly shot from the train as we embarked on our journey to the other side of the country! Such a beautiful countryside!

Here’s live version of a song that is the epitome of St. Patty’s Day!
“Raised on Black and Tans” by Gaelic Storm

I hope everyone can enjoy green beer, cornbeef, and cabbage on this beautiful GREEN St. Patrick’s Day! 🙂

Everyone’s Screaming “Yabo-Dabo-Do” (tagging on to Sarah Comer’s Post)

It was announced that Dabo Swinney, Clemson’s interim football coach, will now assume the position of head coach.  I think that this was a great move on Clemson’s part.  Many students became attached to Dabo as he heightened the morale in Clemson football.  So much hype was created from this change in staff, from Tommy to Dabo, that another change would have been very difficult to pull off.  The media attention raised people’s expectations about our football program, and fans across the nation watched as Dabo brought success to our team.  We beat Boston College, a feat for our team that we had not accomplished in 3 years.  Dabo improved the brand image of Clemson football, which led to people putting faith back in our team.  As head coach, he will continue to improve the image of our football program.

Response to Mary Allen’s iPhone Post

I think that Apple’s marketing strategy served them very well in a world of brand competition. Between Blackberries, iPods, and other technological devices, it seemed like people already had enough to fill their needs that they wouldn’t want something like the iPhone. I was proven wrong when people started camping outside of Apple stores days before the iPhone was released. This goes to show what the right marketing plan can do for a product. The iPhone had the status symbol that everyone wanted, making the item in demand. People now go around with iPhone and iPods just because of what that message says to people. This marketing strategy convinced people that their needs that, in reality were met, were not met unless they had an iPhone.  The Apple corporation continues to come up with new products with marketing strategies along with them in order for their company to prosper.

Growth of Social Media

I’m a college student, so of course I have a Facebook.  I noticed that with the “new Facebook” layout that there is more room for promotions for different things that college students would be interested in.  This, to me, seems like such a great idea. Yes, some of the stuff are dumg spam things, but others promote internships, graduate schools, and other things that would cater to the usual Facebook crowd.  The PR world is growing and finding more creative ways to reach different target audiences.  Facebook is a great way to reach college students; I know that as a Facebook users, I would look at the promotions on the sides of the pages.

PR couldn’t save him

Bill Clinton’s image in the media changes from day to day, and varies depending on whom you ask. He was a trusted president, but lost people’s trust when he not only had an affair with another woman, but he lied about it. His image was damaged so badly that he was even impeached from the presidency. One can question whether the media and public relations played a part in the impeachment. All people ever saw on television was media coverage of Clinton’s scandal, interviews with Monica Lewinski, or other people who say that they witnessed the affair. If there really is no such thing as bad press, then how could people get such a bad taste in their mouth about their president that Congress votes his out of office? If Clinton had hired better PR representatives, could he have turned this situation into a more positive circumstance? With the media showing the side that they wanted people to see, there was no way that Clinton could have saved his image at that point in time.

Angelina Jolie

It’s interesting how public relations can spin the way we view something or someone. Take Angelina Jolie, for example. A few years ago, she was seen as a crazy and weird actress who wore her second husband’s blood in a vile around her neck. Then, she was seen as a homewrecker, who broke up America’s cutest couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. But now she is seen as a social activist, and people admire the work that she is doing for charities, and her caring nature of adopting so many children. She has done a good job at managing her image because people’s views of her seem to change as time goes on. That is the power of PR.

(Mis)Perceptions of Public Relations

One of the definitions of public relations according to dictionary.com is “the art, technique, or profession of promoting such goodwill.”  So if this is what PR practitioners do, then why do some get such a bad reputation for being in a “sleazy business.”  When people think of PR they often think of a person who protects and lies for celebrities who get themselves in trouble.  When in reality, image management is only one of the many jobs of PR practitioner.  Also, PR practitioners are rarely in the spotlight, unlike what people may think.  They are more of the behind-the-scenes people.  Another misconceptions is that people think “I’m great with people and love working with them, so I’ll be a PR practitioner.”  PR consists of a lot of writing and doesn’t always deal with people.  I learned all of these realities of PR when I went to a PRSSA meeting and sat in on a panel of several PR practitioners.  This helped me get a feel for the PR work world to better figure out if I see myself in the field.
